Job Description:
Primary Function and Scope: Our tool room is growing and we need
your help! The Level III Toolmaker works on the more intricate jobs
within the department and requires little to no supervision.
Additionally, this individual will be heavily involved in mentoring
and training apprentices and peers within the Tool Room and
Assembly disciplines. They lay out, fit, and assemble parts to make
and repair cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, or machinists’
hand tools by performing the following duties. Essential Duties &
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: · Studies
blueprint to determine machining to be done and plans layout and
assembly. · Ability to fabricate parts to extremely tight
tolerances, often within /- .0001 to .0005 of an inch · Ability to
expertly set up and operate mills, lathes, grinders, boring mills
and wire edm equipment. · Show proper procedures, then allow the
trainee to perform tasks to build confidence. · Focus on teaching
foundational skills like reading blue prints, understanding
GD&T, and mastering manual machines · Train and mentor
Machinists at levels I and II. · Ability to work well with diverse
individuals and provide constructive, patient feedback · A genuine
desire to teach and pass on skills to the next generation of
workers · Measures parts, making required adjustments to ensure
conformance to requirements. · Must be able to layout and open
plate inspect utilizing surface plates. · Assembles parts into
product and verifies dimensions and alignments. · Set up and
operate machine tools such as lathes, proto-trak milling machines,
and surface grinders to machine parts to specifications. · Verifies
dimensions of parts and installation of components, prior to
submitting to plating, heat treat, or paint. · Maintains clean work
area. · Observe safety procedures including but not limited to
wearing proper hearing and vision protection with side shields and
safety footwear. · Other duties as necessary when requested by
management within Federal and State regulations for the position.
Requirements Education And/Or Experience: · High School Diploma or
GED Required · 10 Years and/or combination of education and
experience · Completion of NYS Apprenticeship Program with
Journeyman Certificate Required · Previous experience as a mentor
in a vocational school or community college setting is beneficial.
· Proto-trak experience preferred. Language Skills: Effective
verbal/written communication. Ability to read, analyze, and
interpret general technical procedures. Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures. Ability to apply concepts of basic
algebra. Proficient in understanding blueprints and interpreting
GD&T. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems
and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where
only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety
of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule
form. Wide variety of duties requiring considerable judgment to
work independently such as devising new methods, adapting or
changing standard procedures to meet new conditions, and making
decisions guided by precedent and within established policies.

functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is working outside between 0-15 percent of the time. The
noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Salary
Description $34.00 - $39.00/hr
