Job Description:

Washington Mills is looking to hire a Production Manager to work in its Niagara Falls, manufacturing facility. The job willreport directly to the Plant Manager and have three Supervisors that report to this position. The Production Manager willbe a key player in the management of two electric arc furnaces and several crushing, grading, and warehousingoperations. This position will work with various departments and functional groups and play a vital role in improvingWashington Mills' competitiveness, including driving change to make the operations more consistent, safer, and efficient.The role requires a hands-on approach to effectively deal with problems and recognize opportunities for processimprovement. In short, the Production Manager will ensure the plant is operating at the highest possible efficiency in thesafest possible way. The candidate must also be able to write clear and concise reports, communicate with peers,managers, and subordinates, and show supervisory skill of both people and projects.Essential Functions

  • Manage daily manufacturing operations in our production facility
  • Work closely with plant supervisors, managers, maintenance, and engineering to find opportunities to improveprocess efficiencies
    • Hands on approach to mentoring and training production staff in areas of change and to ensure best practices areperformed and maintained
      • Collect and analyze plant processes, procedures, and performance using data from SCADA (Supervisory ControlAnd Data Acquisition) systems and make recommendations for improvement
        • Facilitate the establishment of Key Performance Indicators and set up Dashboards to monitor and reportperformance
          • Conduct time studies to ensure processes are hitting established targets, identify inefficiencies and providerecommendations for improvement
            • Utilize Lean Manufacturing tools (i.e. value stream mapping, Kaizen, 5S, Gemba walks, root cause problemsolving) to identify and develop solutions that drive operational improvement
              • Create a weekly production plan which balances the highest production efficiency with timely delivery tocustomers
                • Manage inventory levels based on sales order patterns
                • Investigate customer complaints and provide corrective action plan
                • Minimize waste and maximize production yields
                • Develop timelines and action plans for cost reduction activities
                • Incorporate 5S methodology in all work area to provide employees with a clean and organized workspace
                • Observe plant safety rules and continually inspect work areas regarding health and safety issues
                • Work with Safety Department to train and monitor subordinates to ensure a safe working environment
                • Take appropriate action (sometimes in cooperation with the Safety Coordinator and Maintenance Department) tocorrect health and safety deficiencies
                  • Any other task set by the Plant ManagerRequired Skills
                    • Bachelor's degree in industrial or mechanical engineering preferred, or closely related field
                    • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a management in an industrial environment
                    • Strong commitment to safety
                    • Advanced analytical, conceptual thinking, problem solving, planning and organizational skill
                    • Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and computer literacy
                    • Ability to lead, direct and delegate to cross-functional team members assigned to continuous improvementprojects utilizing strong interpersonal skills
                      • Detail-oriented
                      • Process driven with strong analytical skills
                      • Ability to work in a highly organized manner with detail and accuracy while meeting deadlines and balancingmultiple tasks
                        • Ability to excel both independently and as a team member
                        • In depth knowledge of manufacturing systems and processes
