POSITION: Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs DEPARTMENT: Academic Affairs DIVISION: Academic Affairs HOURS: Exempt, Full-Time, 35 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Note: As a member of our exempt work force there could be occasions when a commitment beyond the normal workweek may be required. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs (AVPAA) is a key member of the Academic Affairs Division. The AVPAA is responsible for assisting the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs in planning, directing, evaluating, and developing academic programs and providing leadership for developing and achieving strategic initiatives. This position is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and overall management of the Doctor of Chiropractic curriculum associated with NYCC's chiropractic program. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Responsible for the direct supervision of: Dean of Faculty, Director of the Master of Science in Diagnostic Imaging Program, Director of the Anatomy Center, Director of Bachelor of Professional Studies Program, Dean of Clinical Education, and administrative assistant. 2. Serves as an important liaison with administrators, faculty, and other constituents of the College. Promote a positive image and maintain effective relationships for Academic Affairs by representing the Division at various meetings, communicating with administrators, faculty, staff, and students in matters related to education, and leading or serving on selected committees and task forces. 3. Oversees the budgets for areas of supervision and monitor expenses throughout the academic year. 4. Represents the College in the Council of Academic Officers of the Association of Chiropractic Colleges as requested by the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs. 5. Ensures that miscellaneous projects related to Academic Affairs are completed in the best interest of the College and in alignment with the College's Strategic Plan. 6. Other duties as assigned. Administrative Role 1. Provide input to and receive direction from the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs. 2. Develop and review programmatic goals, objectives, action steps, and professional development plans, ensuring proper growth of the department consistent with the NYCC programmatic purpose statements. 3. In collaboration with the Dean of Faculty facilitate departmental meetings with faculty and staff on a regular and timely basis. 4. Provide reports to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs and others as necessary and as requested. 5. Provide oversight of the yearly evaluation of departmental staff to ensure departmental quality and continued employee advancements. 6. Manage departmental budgets including financial projections for equipment, facilities, and staffing. 7. Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of the departments and their equipment. Ensure proper inventory of all Doctor of Chiropractic program supplies and equipment. 8. Develop interprofessional relationships for the program with relevant local, state, and national organizations. 9. Provide active involvement and leadership roles for the chiropractic profession at national and state organizations. 10. Provide a positive work and educational environment for the departmental faculty and staff. Faculty 1. Work closely with the Dean of Faculty in relation to faculty matters including, but not limited to scheduling, workload, evaluation, professional development and promotion. 2. Approve the recruitment of, and make recommendations to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs regarding the hiring of full and part-time faculty, clerical staff, and technicians. 3. In collaboration with the Dean of Faculty make recommendations to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs regarding the reappointment of full-time faculty. 4. Maintain and secure faculty and staff departmental personnel records in accordance with College policies. 1. Provide execution of academic practices in alignment with the policies and academic goals of the College. 2. Oversee academic student appeal processes for DC program. 3. Maintain chiropractic program adherence to the accreditation standards established by the Council on Chiropractic Education. 4. Monitor and facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Doctor of Chiropractic curriculum. 5. Approve course outlines and syllabi upon recommendation of the faculty and Curriculum Committee. 6. Provide counsel and support to the Curriculum Committee. 7. Oversee development of Doctor of Chiropractic program standards as to curriculum, textbooks, and terminology. 8. Build and maintain bridges across all aspects of the curriculum. Planning 1. Oversee the development of new and/or revised academic policies and procedures. Make recommendations to the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs regarding changes in academic policies. 2. Using an inclusive process, develop, implement, and assess the chiropractic program's strategic plan. 3. Contribute to the ongoing processes of institutional self-evaluation, strategic planning and accreditation, and prepare reports required to support institutional accreditation activities. 4. Support clinical educational initiatives. Methods of Accountability: 1. Verbal and written communications with the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs. 2. Annual performance evaluations by the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs. 3. Faculty and staff satisfaction. 4. Compliance with College policies. Minimum Qualifications: --- Must be eligible for, or hold the rank of, associate professor or higher. --- Must hold a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. --- A minimum of five years of academic leadership experience, preferably with broad exposure to instructional, research and faculty support activities. --- Have a demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and innovation. --- Have proven skills in program planning, project management, and budget development. --- Have experience with curricula development, policies and procedures, program assessment, as well as knowledge of academic support services and awareness of current trends in higher education. --- Must be able to handle sensitive situations and information with discretion and demonstrate genuine concern for students' academic success. --- Must communicate effectively and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
