York, 14456! Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse

Weeks Shift: Full-time day or night shift (3x12s) scheduled as
needed, including weekends and holidays, plus 2 on-call shifts per
4-week period Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Two years acute
hospital experience as a Registered Nurse; one year emergency
department experience as a Registered Nurse License: Current
Registered Nurse Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke
Certification (Must be AHA or RQI) Must-Have: Two years of
experience serving as a Registered Nurse, with at least one year in
an emergency department environment Description: The Emergency
Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory,
technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality
compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses
patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and
collaboratively provides direct care, applies appropriate
interventions, and evaluates patient progress. The ED RN
demonstrates skill in the use of various invasive and non-invasive
procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions appropriate
for managing life-threatening and routine emergency situations. The
ED RN utilizes principles of relationship-based care to alleviate
anxiety, provide information, and address pain, discomfort, and
safety. He/She assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional,
and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, their families,
and support systems as appropriate. The ED RN connects with
patients and families during triage and identifies the initial
management of patients of all age groups while assigning priority
of care in accordance with Triage Standards as outlined in
training. The ED RN establishes rapport with patients and families,
addresses comfort needs, listens carefully, assesses nonverbal
communication, and provides frequent updates. The ED RN conveys and
gathers information concisely and accurately. The ED RN conducts
primary assessments of critical need, detects and documents any
major deviations from the norm for all age groups within acceptable
time frames, and correctly identifies necessary
steps/interventions. The ED RN uses direct observation,
patient/family interviews, and data to conduct secondary
assessments. The ED RN identifies contributing factors, health
history, and events preceding the emergent health event. The ED RN
assesses the psychosocial needs of each individual, including
family dynamics, and documents and reports any suspicion of
domestic violence or abuse in all age groups. The ED RN reassesses
the patient to identify responses to treatment and/or changes in
condition and responds appropriately. The ED RN encourages and
builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to
accomplish the best possible patient outcomes. The ED RN teaches
others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions
consistent with the individual’s education, training, and scope of
practice. The ED RN understands personal responsibility to
safeguard public safety through compliance with infection
prevention strategies. The ED RN prepares patients, parents, or
families for diagnostic procedures and treatments. The ED RN makes
appropriate referrals for post-emergency care and teaches patients
what is needed for continued care and healing at home. The ED RN
assesses patient/family learning styles and structures sessions to
maximize understanding. The ED RN asks questions to evaluate
retention of key points in education and discharge instruction. The
ED RN seeks to understand what is most important to the patient and
family, acknowledging their central role in care and services. The
ED RN embraces the importance of creating a healing environment as
a key element of professional nursing practice. The ED RN keeps
patients and significant others informed of the care process and
anticipates needs, maintaining awareness of patient conditions
throughout their emergency visit. The ED RN updates patient
communication boards throughout the emergency department stay. 5
