Moog Space and Defense Group is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join the Niagara Falls Engineering team within the Space sector as an Integrated Product Team (IPT) leader for programs involving the design and manufacture of rocket engines and propulsion systems.

IPT Lead - Rocket Engines and Propulsion Systems (Sr. Project Engineer)

You'll have an opportunity to impact the profitability and future success of the business by performing all aspects of technical project planning and execution such as schedule, task priority management, budget, and scope management. You'll be responsible for hardware performance and integration ensuring specification performance compliance. This position will report to the Project/Product Engineering Manager in Niagara Falls.

Responsibilities:

• Provide effective, compassionate project leadership to a team of creative, independent individuals.
• Support cross-site working group to ensure knowledge sharing and pairing of less experienced project managers with more experience project managers.
• Lead a cross-functional/site team through a comprehensive development / qualification test program(s).
• Accountable for the management of budget and execution performance of the program or portion of the program you are responsible for.
• Develop new product requirements through consulting with customers and sales personnel.
• Validate conceptual problem solutions by performing trade studies and analyses.
• Prepare successful proposals, cost estimates, and shoulder the responsibility for writing the technical volume.
• Document designs, analyses, and test results with accurate and concise reports.
• Consult on new product and market development efforts.
• Assist in interviewing, training, and counseling junior engineers. Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical), with a preference for a MS Degree in Engineering.
  • Demonstrated understanding achieved through experience in the design, analysis, and development of space propulsion hardware. 7 years' experience (10-15 years is preferred) with a proven record of successful development programs as part of a project team.
  • Ability to communicate fluently to a wide variety of audiences and serve as technical focal point for presentations.
  • Self-starting instincts, strong analytical skills and solid knowledge of propulsion hardware required to fulfill the demands of design and development of new products.
  • Project management experience related to technical, cost, schedule execution, and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Tools (Word, Power Point, Excel) including MS Project.
  • Ability to work onsite in Western NY (primarily out of Niagara Falls, but also East Aurora). Preferred Skills...
    • DoD Earned Value Management and Program Management Professional (PMP) certification.
    • Experience managing large programs with budgets of $10M+ and/or large cross functional teams of 15+ people
    • Mechanical / Propulsion Product Engineering experience
    • Experience performing risk analysis and developing risk mitigation plans
